• Beaded Edge Tyres – These are generally found on vintage European cars. They have large ridges of hard rubber around the tyre designed to hook to the wheel’s rim.
• Wire-on Tyres – These are similar to Beaded Edge Tyres but they have a wire within the beads to stop it from stretching and thus ensuring it won’t come off the wheel.
• Cross-Ply Tyres – These are designed with superimposed layers of textile cord running at alternate angles from bead to bead. This creates a tyre where the sidewall and tread become one rigid structure.
• Radial Tyres – These are made with ply cords that radiate at a 90-degree angle from the wheel rim. This enables better vertical flexibility while maximising the amount of contact with the road and ensuring better handling.
